FlexRay is a serial, deterministic and fault-tolerant bus system which was developed by a consortium of leading manufacturers of the automotive industry. It is primary used in the automotive sector and suitable for all security-relevant applications as well as transmissions of very high data volumes.

The FlexRay standard is currently being transferred in an ISO-standard. FlexRay defines the layer 1 (physical layer) and 2 (data security layer) in the ISO/OSI reference model.
