The Local Interconnect Network (LIN) is the specification for a serial communication system, also named LIN-Bus. LIN was developed for the low cost communication between intelligent sensors and actuators in motor vehicles.

LIN is used wherever the bandwidth and versatility of CAN are not necessary. A LIN includes one single master and one or more slaves. The master is aware of the time sequence order of all transmitted data. This data is transmitted by slaves when requested from the master by sending a header which is characterized by a determined message address. Then the slaves transfer the data bytes onto the bus.
